Located in Brooklyn’s historic Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, Myrtle Avenue Apartments transformed a former city-owned vacant lot into badly needed affordable housing. All 33 apartments in the building have 2 and 3 bedrooms to accommodate families, eleven of which are set aside as permanent housing for formerly homeless families. The design of the building incorporates façade details from the neighborhood, including the decorative cornice, eyebrow window headers and horizontal bands. As part of a NYSERDA pilot project, Myrtle Avenue Apartments is the nation’s second multifamily high-rise building to receive the Energy Star label. The building’s high-performance energy-efficient elements will reduce both building and resident utility bills for years to come.
